The purpose of a journal club is to hear about interesting science though the presentation of scholarly journal articles.  During a meeting of our group, we have two people each present on some area of physics for half an hour.  Questions are encouraged, and our aim is to have informal discussions on cutting edge research.

We encourage students with all levels of physics training to both attend and present at our meetings.  Because physics journal articles can sometimes be challenging to understand and explain, especially when some of the audience has not yet taken advanced physics courses, many of our presentations are on a general area of physics, like laser cooling, as opposed to a specific article.

The journal club should be a place to learn cool physics, practice presenting science to peers, and meet fellow physics students.  We welcome comments and suggestions that help us achieve these goals.
